"Universally loved, this elicited all manner of positive tasting notes, with panellists identifying everything from candied fruit, tropical fruit lychee, fennel, anise and lime, to toffee and caramel. tasters noted the attractive louche effect o the addition of water, which also opened up some floral notes. 'Something of a departure' as one taster put it." Imbibe Magazine, October 2011

Enigma Blanche is made with a grape-alcohol base, and combines grande and petite wormwood, green anise, hyssop, veronica, camomile, génepi, fennel, coriander and angelica; all plants are individually distilled into full 80%+ alcoholates, which are then blended. The protocols for this absinthe come from a recipe listed as 'Absinthe Suisse' in serveral well-regarded French distiller's manuals of the 19th century, including Brevans, Duplais and Fritsch. The alcoholic strength is then reduced as historically specified to 74%, giving this absinthe real backbone, but by no means overpowers the finesse and lingering aromas of this complex combination of aromatic plants specified by this highly regarded and well documented recipe. This absinthe is often compared to, and surpasses in quality, many uncoloured Swiss la Bleues now made today.

Colour: A nice, bright, clear absinthe.
Louche: Nice and thick with a great opalescence when done.
Aroma: Before louche, fresh with wormwood and anise to the fore
Flavor: Sweet anise with loads of wormwood. A good deep flavour.
Finish: Nice wormwood bitterness.

Customer Reviews

Really lovely drink  My husband had always wanted to try Absinthe, so bought the green gift set; for our second bottle we decided to try the Enigma Blanche, an equal delight. We feel quite sophisticated and really enjoy the eperience. Service also superb and we have no hesitation in recommending.   (08/09/2014) Sheila Stern - Rochdale, UK
